Paint With Us at First Friday!

We had such a great time painting bike frames during July’s First Friday! Members of the Downtown Las Vegas community (and beyond) contributed to the painting of three bike frames which will become part of our RTC Bike Share fleet. Didn’t get a chance to contribute? We will be returning to First Friday next month! We look forward to seeing more artwork being added to our bike frames during the next First Friday, on August 6th. Keep an eye out around Downtown Las Vegas to see your art on wheels!

June Art Tour Ride Guide

Are you as excited about the return of festivals as we are? Can’t wait for September? Take some time to ride down memory lane and view the art of previous years’ Life is Beautiful festivals by bike!

Art Tour By Bike Route

Dock at Fremont & 10th:

  • After you dock your bike, look up to be greeted by some colorful creatures. This is the work of Kevin Lyons, looking to spread some cheer.
  • Looking west towards Fremont9 you’ll notice a group of larger than life butterflies appearing to flutter away. This is a mural by French artist sensation Mantra from Life is Beautiful 2019.
  • Walking towards Fergusons, you’ll notice shadowed letters above the entrance to Gather House. This is the work of Indian graffiti artist Daku paying homage to the building’s former life as a bookstore. Fun Fact: The quote is mistakenly attributed to Shakespeare but it is actually a slightly modified paraphrasing of the poem Time Is by American poet Henry Jackson van Dyke Jr.

Dock at Fremont & 7th:

  • After a short walk to the west you will notice one of artist Ernest Zacharevic‘s signature whimsical murals depicting two children playing on an infinity sign. Lithuanian-born, Ernest Zacharevic is an artist who combines fine art with creating art outdoors.

Dock at 1st & Ogden:

  • The Plaza is an iconic DTLV property but have you ever taken some time to admire the artwork strategically placed around the exterior? This is the work of Brooklyn based FAILE, a collaboration between Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller. Growing up together in Arizona, USA during the 1970s, the two began working together in New York in the late 1990s.

Ride Safe: Know Before You Go

The RTC continues its commitment to safety and has partnered with the Southern Nevada Bicycle Coalition (SNVBC) to promote its Ride Safe: Know Before You Go campaign throughout the month. The educational program identifies five critical points of gear and behavior for cyclists to keep top-of-mind: Protect Your Head, Be Visible, Choose Safe Routes, Be Predictable, and Ride Defensively.

“Cyclists’ behavior and decision-making are integral to achieving a zero-collision goal. As we ask motorists to learn about cyclist behavior and consider our presence on the road, cyclists must be predictable and plan safe routes before riding,” said Rob Hutchinson, SNVBC’s president. “Ride Safe’s points need to be second nature for everyone riding a bicycle, new and seasoned cyclists, alike.”

Let’s Celebrate National Bike Month!

Started back in 1956, the League of American Bicyclists created National Bike Month to spread awareness of the benefits of biking as well as promote safer conditions for riders. Now celebrated from coast to coast, National Bike Month is a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling and encourage more folks to give biking a try. This year, RTC Bike Share is bringing our riders exciting updates as we spin into National Bike Month.

New passes, who ‘dis? We have officially updated our pass options to offer you daily, monthly, and yearly pass options. That’s right, you can now purchase your RTC Bike Share pass annually. In addition, our monthly and annual pass options now have reduced fare opportunities for EBT cardholders made possible in part by our partnership with Southern Nevada Health District! We didn’t stop at the pass structure; we went for a full makeover and updated our pass names too!

New passes bring new purchase options. The RTC is the first transit agency in the United States to fully integrate its bike share and public transit systems into a single account and app experience. This new offering, available in the Transit app, enables riders to plan a multimodal trip, purchase a transit pass, and unlock a bike with just a few taps. Riders will still be able to purchase passes on the RTC Bike Share website or the BCycle App. Already using the Transit app? You can visit your closest RTC Bike Share station, open the app, and tap a bike share icon to get started.

RTC Bike Share is electrifying downtown Las Vegas with e-bikes

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) is introducing five electric pedal-assist bikes to the existing RTC Bike Share program for a limited time.

Starting March 4 through March 18, RTC Bike Share will test an e-bike program with five electric pedal-assist bikes added to its existing 180 classic bikes inventory. Branded with green lightning bolts, the electric bikes are powered by a front wheel pedal-assist motor that allows riders to overcome elevation obstacles and make commutes quicker with speeds up to 17 miles per hour.

Easy to find at any of the 21 bike share locations in downtown Las Vegas, the electric bikes are available for the same price as classic bikes. Riders can purchase a 24-hour pass for $5 or 3-day pass for $10 at any bike share kiosk. Monthly passes are also available online for $20.

After March 18, the RTC will evaluate ridership and feedback to consider whether electric bikes should be added to the bike share program.
